The Decatur Community Church quilting group organized in 2022 to support Charlotte Grimes with her 4-H quilting project. One of Charlotte’s project requirements was to make and donate a quilt to a community service organization. Charlotte chose to make a baby quilt and donate it to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Georgetown, and members of the church joined her efforts. Dr Seuss theme fabric was used, and completed quilt bundles also included storybooks.
In 2023 the quilt project continued with larger sofa throw quilts being made for the Ohio Veterans Home; in 2024 the quilting group has chosen to make quilts for children in foster care.
The group has received donated fabric from Nancy Goecke and The Quilt Barn; additional financial support for the group’s projects has been made available by the Decatur Community Church and donations received in memory of Nancy Grimes.
Several of the quilters work at home on their projects and then meet to work together in the church basement from 9:00 am to noon on the last Saturday of each month. Anyone interested in helping or learning more about their quilting projects is welcome to attend. The group is always looking for additional needs to meet so suggestions are encouraged.
