Kevin Jodrey
Kevin was welcomed into this world on March 31, 1962, the son of Donald and Ruth (Fields) Jodrey. When Kevin was about 6 years old, the family moved from West Union to Decatur.
At about the age of 14, Kevin and his younger brother bought a Dynamark riding mower and went into the lawn mowing business. One of their customers was the Decatur Presbyterian Church yard.
Kevin was picking up the check for mowing the yard when the Church Treasurer, Beulah West, invited him to attend church. He went that next Sunday and hardly missed a Sunday for years.
He answered “yes” when asked to be the Sunday School Assistant Superintendent. When the Superintendent decided to retire, Kevin assumed those duties and served in that capacity for years. He was asked to serve as an Elder, and again accepted that responsibility.
In 1988, Kevin committed to reading all of the New Testament. About halfway through, he received a call from God to become a preacher. This was the same time the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) turned 200 years old and had created a Bicentennial fund to create programs to help the church. One of those programs was a Lay Preacher’s School to train preachers to serve in the small and rural churches that couldn’t afford a full time pastor.
Upon completion of the 3-year course, Kevin was called by his home church in Decatur to serve there. They only asked him to serve 1 year and then he could go somewhere else if he wanted. Kevin never left and continues to serve today as the Pastor of the Decatur Community Church.
